Hello, Parents and Children!

It’s that time of year again, and school is now in session, or will be in the near future. What does that mean to your fitness routine, and the routine of your children?

More often than not, schools have a gym period. When I went to school, we had specific activities per school term. I always looked forward to the gymnastics, as I had always dreamed of flipping across some floor. It was only a dream, but it was fun to pretend, if only for a small amount of time. When I got home, I would practice the cartwheels I learned until I got the form perfect (in my own mind, of course).

My point today is this: No matter what the activity of the term, week or day is, get involved with your children. If they are practicing volleyball in school, buy a volleyball and practice with them. Your kids will love the special attention, and they may even develop some new skill sets by home practice sessions. Make them fun, and take advantage of the time you have together.

If your child is struggling with a particular sport, take some time to do research with them and learn how to progress at a pace that your child is comfortable with. Remember the adage: “Practice makes perfect”.

The extra benefit is that not only will your children enjoy a healthier life by doing something other than pressing buttons on a gadget, but you will also have the opportunity to exercise while bonding with your family. You may have so much fun, that you forget you are actually exercising your body, mind and spirit.

Sounds like a win-win situation to me. What do you think?

Happy Playing!
