Winter Through Spring Holiday Time

Valentine's Day decoration

This is one of my favorite times of year for a very simple reason: I love to decorate my house according to the holidays.

I went from Christmas and Hanukkah to Valentine’s Day to Saint Patrick’s Day, and it will end, sadly, with Easter and Passover. OK. I suppose I could decorate for Cinco De Mayo, Bastille Day, July 4th, and a slew of other Hallmark days, but I find that ending after Easter leaves me something to look forward to the next year.

Let’s make this clear: When I say decorate, I mean this: I change the window clings to the new holiday, I change the refrigerator magnets, I display the appropriate door decoration, I put out the kitchen towels with the new theme, and I change the colors of our floral centerpiece on the dining room table. It’s not much, and it doesn’t detract from the beauty of our humble abode, but it certainly makes us smile when we walk in the door each day.

It should also be noted that most of the above-mentioned items are purchased at our local Dollar Store, so I don’t break the bank.

Let’s face it: Our days are busy. Pedro is off taking care of clients from Miami to Weston and everywhere in between, and he comes home tired. When he walks in the door, these little touches are enough to help him unwind, and look forward to coming home.

What little touches do you add to make your house a home?
