Fitbit….It’s NOT just another gadget!

Fitbit….It’s NOT just another gadget!

(In MY opinion, of course)

I seldom review products, but I sometimes come across an item that warrants praise. This is one of those times.

Recently, I found myself a bit unmotivated to get to the gym and move as much as I should. Sure I train my clients, but I was neglecting myself. I decided that I wanted to try a Fitbit, based on the glowing reviews it got from people I personally know and respect. To be totally honest with you, I wasn’t prepared to be WOWed.

I did my research, and decided that the Charge 2 had the features that I wanted. It claimed to keep track of stairs, as well as steps taken, sleep patterns, and it would magically know when I was on an ellipse machine. Again…I was skeptical.

When I ordered the Fitbit, I also ordered replacement bands in a rainbow of colors. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I have a “thing” for matching. It’s more of an obsession, which accounts for my vast sneaker collection in every  color of the rainbow. (Of course, I only purchase them when the price is begging me to take the sneakers home). I have to admit: Customizing the Fitbit with interchangeable bands was exciting for me. I know what you are thinking: She needs to get out more often. While you are most certainly right, I was still excited about the bands. Moving on…

When the unit arrived, I was a bit nervous. I am not the most technically savvy person. I am not a total dolt, but I always have the fear that I will crash and burn something because I pushed the wrong button. That being said, I tentatively took the unit out of the box, followed the on-line directions I was given, and voila! I was in the Fitbit game.

Fast forward a few weeks until today. Here is what I have found out:

  1. Strangely enough, seeing the number of steps I take DOES motivate me to take more.
  2. I am seriously lacking quality sleep
  3. The claim was right. It DOES know when I am on the elliptical machine
  4. The buzzing reminders to get up and move are very helpful, especially when I am doing work.
  5. Knowing how many calories I burn in a day is strangely satisfying.
  6. Changing the bands to match my outfit of the day IS as fun as I thought it would be. (I had to let you know).

There are many other features of my new fitness gadget, and the features vary from model to model, but I have to admit that I LOVE this thing. Do your research and find the one that suits you best. Some are swim-proof, some can clip on, some track calories burned, some let you log your food for the day, some have more on the display, etc. Whatever your fitness needs may be I am convinced that Fitbit will help keep you focused and motivated.

Happy Tracking!
